Our Home Groups Ministry
______________________________
"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." - Acts 2:42,46-47
The Home Groups Ministry exists to help foster and facilitate the type of community within our church like that described about the first century church in the book of Acts. We encourage authentic community building at Southwest by plugging people into small groups where we can share our lives with each other.
"The key to church health is that a church must grow larger and smaller at the same time" - Rick Warren
If you're looking for a place where you can get to know other people and have others care about you, you will find that in our home groups. Besides just getting together once a week for Bible study and fellowship, members of our home groups enjoy rich relationships with others that goes well beyond just casual Sunday morning acquaintances.
"The development of meaningful relationships where every member carries a significant sense of belonging is central to what it means to be the church." - Randy Frazee
Studies have shown that there is something within each of us that draws us to other believers and creates a need to belong.
"We [as Americans] are physically detached from each other. We change places of residence frequently. One survey revealed that seven in ten do not know their neighbors. As many as one-third of Americans admit to frequent periods of loneliness." - George Gallup, Jr.
To get involved in a home group, you can contact one of the leaders directly or Jimmie Hackworth at homegroups@swcchurch.org. You can find a list of the groups in each Sunday's bulletin or on our website and you can use our map in the foyer to find a group near you. After participating in a home group for a while, you may even discover that you'd like to open up your own home for a new group. If so, let us know. We're always looking for new host homes!
