Our Ministries

Just before Jesus was crucified, he met with his closest disciples in an upstairs room to have a very special meal. It was during this time that Jesus instituted the Lord's Supper and we usually remember this time for that very reason.

But something else took place that was also very important. In John 13, we read the following:
"Jesus ... rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel ..."

Imagine what must have been going through the disciples' minds. Here was the Son of God, doing something so menial as washing their feet. Jesus went on to answer these questions later in the chapter. He said "For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you."

Jesus set the example for us by serving others. And he told us that we should do the same. At Southwest, we believe that every Christian should be actively involved in serving others in one of our ministries.

We have 16 different ministries that offer a wide variety of opportunities to serve. God has given different talents, gifts and abilities to every Christian, so everyone can do something. That's why Jesus (Matthew 23:11) tells us, "The greatest among you shall be your servant."
